Hyperliquid tops our list of the best derivatives protocols in 2026 with roughly $6.2 billion in total value locked as of July 2026 (DefiLlama) — and a dominance that goes well beyond deposits. It clears roughly 70% of decentralized perps volume and, per The Block, nearly 6% of the global perpetuals market including centralized exchanges, handling more than $210 billion in perps volume in the 30 days to July 7, 2026.
The rest of the field consolidated hard over the past year. Drift Protocol, formerly Solana's largest perps DEX, was drained of ~$285 million in an April 1, 2026 admin-takeover attack attributed to North Korean actors. Vertex Protocol was acquired by the Ink Foundation in July 2025 and wound down trading that August. Synthetix, after a prolonged sUSD depeg, voted in June 2026 to decommission its stablecoin. Veterans GMX (~$0.2B TVL) and dYdX (~$0.13B) continue to operate in their own niches, alongside options-focused platforms Derive, Aevo, and Opyn.
The ranking below combines TVL and track record; entries affected by 2025-2026 events are noted inline and figures are as of July 2026.
-
#1
Hyperliquid
$6.2B TVL
Fully on-chain perpetuals DEX with a CLOB on its own L1. Dominant decentralized perps platform by volume — roughly 70% of DEX perps volume as of mid-2026 and over $210B traded in the 30 days to July 7; HLP vault provides liquidity for retail flow.
-
#2
Drift Protocol
$0.22B TVL
Solana perps DEX using a hybrid liquidity model (DLOB + AMM + JIT auction). Was Solana's largest perps platform until an April 1, 2026 admin-takeover exploit, attributed to DPRK actors, drained ~$285M; as of July 2026 its remaining TVL sits mostly in Drift Staked SOL.
-
#3
GMX
$0.2B TVL
Multi-asset perps DEX using a shared liquidity pool (GLP/GM). v2 introduced isolated GM markets with custom risk parameters. Pioneered LP-as-counterparty for perps.
-
#4
dYdX
$0.13B TVL
Perpetuals DEX that migrated from StarkEx to its own Cosmos appchain (v4) in 2023. Off-chain order book matched on-chain; validators run the matching infrastructure.
-
#5
Lyra / Derive
$0.11B TVL
Decentralized options protocol that rebranded to Derive in 2024 and launched its own OP Stack rollup. Cross-margin perps, options, and spot in a unified portfolio margin engine.
-
#6
Aevo
$0.02B TVL
Options and perps DEX from the Ribbon team running on a custom OP Stack rollup. Off-chain orderbook with on-chain settlement; pre-launch token markets a flagship product.
-
#7
Synthetix
<$0.01B TVL
Pioneer synthetic-asset and perps liquidity protocol that historically powered Kwenta, Polynomial, and Infinex. After a prolonged sUSD depeg, the community voted in June 2026 to decommission the stablecoin and compensate holders in vested SNX; TVL has fallen to negligible levels as of July 2026.
-
#8
Opyn
<$0.01B TVL
Options protocol pioneer behind Squeeth (perpetual squared ETH exposure) and Crab Strategy. Builds power-perp primitives and structured products on top of Uniswap v3.
-
#9
Vertex Protocol
Wound down
Hybrid orderbook + AMM perps and spot DEX with cross-margin across spot, perps, and money market. Acquired by the Ink Foundation in July 2025; trading was phased out across its EVM deployments by August 14, 2025, with VRTX holders migrated to INK.
