ECCB DCash event
Overview
DCash was the retail central bank digital currency piloted by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), launched in March 2021 and covering members of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union beginning with Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia. It allowed users without a bank account to make real-time, fee-free person-to-person and merchant payments through a mobile app. The pilot suffered a prolonged technical outage in early 2022 and formally ended in January 2024; the ECCB has since sought technology vendors for a successor system, DCash 2.0.
