ENS DAO dao
Overview
ENS DAO is the governance body of the Ethereum Name Service, formed when ENS launched its $ENS governance token on 8 November 2021. The token distribution allocated 25% of circulating supply to owners of .eth domain names via airdrop and 50% (50 million ENS) to the DAO treasury, of which 10% was available at launch and the remainder unlocks linearly over four years from 8 November 2021. The airdrop claim window ran until 4 May 2022: 19.6 million ENS were claimed by 103,000 eligible addresses, and the remaining 5.4 million unclaimed tokens were transferred to the DAO treasury when the window closed. Token holders who claimed voted on ratification of the ENS DAO Constitution — a set of binding rules determining which governance actions are legitimate for the DAO to take — which was ratified in November 2021 with 97% approval from 84,350 voting wallets casting 15 million votes. The combination of a large treasury, a constitutional constraint on governance and broad airdrop-based distribution made ENS DAO one of the most-cited templates for DAO design. ENS launched its governance token on 8 November 2021 and the DAO Constitution was ratified that month with 97% approval. The airdrop claim window closed on 4 May 2022, with 19.6 million ENS claimed by 103,000 addresses and 5.4 million unclaimed tokens returned to the treasury.
