Circle launched version 2 of its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP V2) on March 11, 2025, initially on Ethereum and Avalanche. CCTP moves native USDC between blockchains by burning it on the source chain and minting it on the destination chain; V2 added a Fast Transfer mode that settles in seconds rather than waiting for full source-chain finality, and Hooks, which let developers trigger automated actions on the destination chain after a transfer. Circle subsequently expanded CCTP V2 to many more networks and later designated it the canonical version, deprecating CCTP V1.
