EigenLayer completed its Stage 2 mainnet launch on Ethereum on April 9, 2024, opening the protocol to node operators and Actively Validated Services (AVSs). EigenDA, Eigen Labs' data availability layer, went live as the first AVS, and restakers could delegate their restaked collateral to operators securing AVSs. In-protocol payments to operators and slashing were deliberately excluded from this launch, to be added later once the marketplace stabilised. At the time of the launch restakers had deposited roughly 3.6 million ETH, worth over $12 billion.
