Overview

Project Guardian is an asset-tokenisation initiative led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), launched in May 2022 to test whether tokenisation can improve liquidity and efficiency in regulated wholesale financial markets. It runs industry pilots across fixed income, foreign exchange, and asset and wealth management, covering tokenised funds, bonds, stablecoins and bank liabilities, and uses atomic settlement so that asset and cash legs move simultaneously or not at all. By November 2024 the programme had grown to more than 40 financial institutions, industry associations and policymakers across multiple jurisdictions. Participants and partners have included J.P. Morgan, Deutsche Bank (which joined in May 2024), Swift, the UK Financial Conduct Authority, and industry bodies such as The Investment Association and the Investment Management Association of Singapore.
