Overview
BlackRock is the world's largest asset manager, founded on 9 March 1988 by Larry Fink, Robert Kapito, Susan Wagner and several co-founders, and headquartered at 50 Hudson Yards in New York City with about 70 offices in 30 countries. It runs the iShares ETF business, acquired through the $13.5 billion purchase of Barclays Global Investors in 2010. BlackRock entered crypto products directly with the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), launched in January 2024, which by May 2024 was the largest bitcoin fund in the world with close to $20 billion in assets. In March 2024 it also launched the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL), a tokenized fund on Ethereum that gathered $245 million in its first week.
