Diem was a permissioned blockchain-based payment system proposed by Facebook (Meta) to enable a global digital currency. Originally named Libra, the project was rebranded to Diem in 2020. It was discontinued in 2022 after regulatory challenges led to the sale of its intellectual property and assets to Silvergate Capital.
