Overview
The Australian CBDC Pilot (eAUD) was a research project run jointly by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and the Digital Finance Cooperative Research Centre (DFCRC) to explore use cases and technical feasibility of a digital Australian dollar with industry participants. The pilot eAUD was a real claim on the RBA, issued on a permissioned Ethereum-based platform in a controlled trial environment. The project concluded in August 2023, with a final report summarising 15 industry use cases. It was followed by Project Acacia (from 2024), which focuses on wholesale tokenised-asset settlement.
