Overview

Project Hamilton is a joint research initiative between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston to design and test a hypothetical central bank digital currency (CBDC) for the United States. It produced the open-source OpenCBDC software platform, which explores high-transaction-throughput, secure, and private digital currency architectures. The Boston Fed and MIT completed the research in December 2022; no decision has been made to issue a US CBDC.
