Polygon MATIC token
Overview
Polygon MATIC was the original gas and staking token of the Polygon network, an Ethereum-compatible proof-of-stake chain. Since September 2024 it has been replaced 1:1 by POL as the native token of Polygon PoS, and as of 2026 the MATIC-to-POL migration is over 99% complete. POL is now used for paying transaction fees, staking to secure the network, and participating in governance; remaining MATIC is a legacy token that converts 1:1 to POL.
