Legal status
Primary regulator
Stablecoin status
Framework: EU MiCA (Regulation 2023/1114) + Act No. 248/2024 Coll. on crypto-assets.
Slovakia implements MiCA through Act No. 248/2024 Coll., which designates Národná banka Slovenska (NBS) as the competent authority for CASP authorisation and supervision. Slovakia shortened MiCA's default 18-month grandfathering to 12 months: legacy virtual-asset service providers could continue operating only until 30 December 2025 unless licensed earlier. NBS granted its first CASP authorisations in mid-December 2025 — the ESMA register records Fintegence (Cryptovoucher brand), FUMBI and Madison Six (crypto4me) with authorisation dates of 18 December 2025 and FINTECH SK (Bitcoinmat) on 19 December 2025. Retail crypto investment platform Fumbi announced its authorisation on 17 December 2025, describing itself as among the first Slovak firms authorised under MiCA, with clients of predecessor entity FUMBI NETWORK j.s.a. migrating to the licensed company at year-end. Firefish Europe (2 January 2026) and Okazio (15 January 2026) brought Slovakia to six authorised CASPs by the register's July 2026 update.
Tax treatment
Slovakia legislated one of Europe's friendliest crypto tax regimes, and — contrary to a widely repeated claim that the reliefs were repealed before taking effect — they came into force on 1 January 2024 and remain in force in 2026. Under the June 2023 amendment to the Income Tax Act, an individual's gain on crypto-assets held for more than one year before disposal (and not held as business assets) is taxed in a special tax base at a flat 7%. Gains on crypto held for less than one year are taxed as ordinary income at 19% (up to €48,441.43) or 25% above that. Health-insurance contributions on crypto sales were abolished from 2024, and a €2,400 annual exemption applies to gains from using crypto to pay for goods or services. Mining and other crypto income falling outside the long-term-holding relief are taxed at the ordinary progressive rates.
Travel rule applicability
Status: EU framework. The recast Transfer of Funds Regulation (EU) 2023/1113 — the crypto travel rule — applies directly in Slovakia from 30 December 2024 alongside MiCA, requiring CASPs to attach originator and beneficiary information to crypto-asset transfers.
Notable enforcement actions
- 2024. The 7% preferential rate on crypto held over one year, and the abolition of health-insurance contributions on crypto sales, took effect on 1 January 2024 and remain in force.
- 2025. First NBS CASP authorisations under MiCA: Fintegence, FUMBI and Madison Six (18 December 2025), FINTECH SK (19 December 2025).
- 2025. Slovakia's 12-month grandfathering window for legacy VASPs ended on 30 December 2025.
Public licensed CASP list
The ESMA interim MiCA register (July 2026 update) lists six Slovakia-authorised CASPs, all licensed by the National Bank of Slovakia: Fintegence s.r.o. / Cryptovoucher (18 Dec 2025), FUMBI s.r.o. (18 Dec 2025), Madison Six j.s.a. / crypto4me (18 Dec 2025), FINTECH SK s.r.o. / Bitcoinmat (19 Dec 2025), Firefish Europe s.r.o. (2 Jan 2026) and Okazio s.r.o. (15 Jan 2026).

Doing business in Slovakia — practical notes
New entrants apply to the NBS for a MiCA CASP authorisation, which passports across the EU/EEA. The NBS checks an application's completeness within 25 working days and then has 40 working days for its qualitative assessment. Since 30 December 2025, providing in-scope crypto-asset services in Slovakia without a MiCA authorisation (domestic or passported) is unlawful — the pre-MiCA trade-licence-era VASP status no longer suffices. The 7% preferential rate on crypto held over one year keeps Slovakia comparatively attractive on crypto tax; its licensees are predominantly domestic retail platforms and ATM/voucher operators.
