New UK energy secretary previously called for net zero target to be accelerated

Miatta Fahnbulleh became UK energy security and net zero secretary on July 20, 2026 in new prime minister Andy Burnham's first cabinet, replacing Ed Miliband. She had previously argued Britain should reach net zero within about a decade, far ahead of the 2050 target, but has since rowed back, citing cost-of-living pressures.
