Bitcoin 'Q-Day' Draws Nearer as Quantum Researcher Breaks Simplified Key

Italian researcher Giancarlo Lelli broke a 15-bit elliptic curve key using about 70 qubits, winning Project Eleven's 1 BTC Q-Day Prize worth nearly $78,000. Bitcoin uses 256-bit keys, but some 6.9 million BTC sit in wallets with exposed public keys.
