U.S. Bitcoin Ownership Rises to 18.6%, Surpassing Gold at 10.8%
River's July 2026 research found 49.6 million Americans, or 18.6% of adults, now own bitcoin, versus 28.8 million, or 10.8%, who own gold. Bitcoin ownership climbed from 14.3% at the start of 2026 in roughly six months, which River attributed to easier exchange access and friendlier regulation.
