Overview
Abstract is an Ethereum Layer 2 built by Igloo Inc., the company behind the Pudgy Penguins NFT brand, and is that company's first blockchain project. It is a ZK rollup built on zkSync's ZK Stack, using zero-knowledge technology from zkSync together with EigenDA for data availability; zk-rollups batch many operations into a single proof, enabling cheaper and faster transactions than settling each on Ethereum directly. Abstract's stated goal is to become 'the dominant consumer crypto chain', explicitly organised around culture, community building and dedicated support for builders and brands, with target applications in gaming, social, NFTs and prediction markets. Mainnet launched on 27 January 2025. The launch drew heavy attention but also visible teething problems, with early users reporting failing RPC endpoints, unexpected Ethereum gas costs when bridging, and a lack of contract security scanners. Since launch the chain has processed over 116 million transactions and attracted roughly $50 million in TVL. Abstract was announced by Igloo Inc. as the consumer-focused chain from the Pudgy Penguins team, ran a pre-launch period through 2024, and shipped mainnet on 27 January 2025 with early reliability issues that were widely reported.
