Cosmos Hub chain
Overview
The Cosmos Hub is the first blockchain in the Cosmos network, powered by the interchain stack of CometBFT consensus, the Cosmos SDK application framework and the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (IBC). It is a proof-of-stake chain whose native token ATOM is delegated to validators to secure the network, earning delegators ATOM rewards, and which grants on-chain governance rights over proposals shaping the network. Users and operators interact with it through gaiad, the command-line tool offering complete coverage of Hub functionality including accounts, transfers, delegation and governance. The Hub anchors a broader Cosmos ecosystem of sovereign, application-specific chains that interoperate natively via IBC; Cosmos documentation states that more than 200 chains are live in production on the stack. The core stack is maintained by Cosmos Labs, a subsidiary of the Swiss non-profit Interchain Foundation, which oversees ecosystem treasury and governance.
