Overview
Fidelity Digital Assets is the institutional digital-asset business of Fidelity Investments, offering custody, trade execution and stablecoin products to professional investors and institutions. Fidelity began researching blockchain more than a decade before, and the dedicated digital-assets business started serving clients in 2019; it has since expanded to support several other Fidelity offerings. Its custody service provides secure storage and asset transfers backed by physical, cyber and operational controls, while its execution service gives access to multiple trading venues without requiring assets to leave cold storage — the combination institutions typically need to satisfy their own custody and best-execution requirements. It also issues the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD), a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. Custody and trading are provided by Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, which operates as a national trust bank, and the business is also registered with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority. Fidelity Investments began blockchain research over a decade ago and launched client services through Fidelity Digital Assets in 2019. The business has since expanded to underpin other Fidelity products, added the Fidelity Digital Dollar (FIDD) stablecoin, and operates its custody and trading through a national trust bank entity, Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association.
