Overview
The Helium Foundation is the non-profit organisation that supports the Helium decentralised wireless network and its HNT token. Helium incentivises individuals to deploy hotspots that provide IoT (LoRaWAN) and mobile coverage, rewarding them in tokens. The Foundation announced and coordinated the migration of the Helium ecosystem from its own purpose-built blockchain to Solana, which was approved by token holders through HIP 70 with about 81% support and completed in April 2023. Moving to Solana removed the need to maintain a standalone chain and changed how HNT and subDAO token rewards are distributed.
