Overview
MoonPay is a crypto payments infrastructure company founded in 2019 by Ivan Soto-Wright, Victor Faramond and Maximilian Crown, best known as a fiat on-ramp: it lets users buy cryptocurrency and NFTs with cards and bank transfers, and lets apps and wallets embed that flow. It operates in roughly 160 countries as of 2024 and is headquartered in Miami, with a new US headquarters announced in New York City in April 2025. Funding peaked with a $555 million Series A in November 2021 at a $3.4 billion valuation; the company marked its internal valuation down to $2.8 billion in 2022, and by December 2025 was seeking a new round at a $5 billion valuation. It has expanded through acquisition, buying crypto payments startup Helio for $175 million in January 2025 and stablecoin platform Iron in March 2025. In June 2025 it obtained a BitLicense and a money transmitter licence from the New York State Department of Financial Services. MoonPay launched in 2019 and rode the 2021 NFT boom to a $3.4 billion valuation, before writing that down to $2.8 billion in 2022. It pivoted toward broader payments infrastructure with the Helio ($175 million, January 2025) and Iron (March 2025) acquisitions, secured New York BitLicense and money transmitter licences in June 2025, and was reported in December 2025 to be raising at a $5 billion valuation.
