Nvidia Corporation is an American semiconductor company founded on 5 April 1993 in Sunnyvale, California by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem, and headquartered in Santa Clara. It designs graphics processing units, systems on chips and APIs for data science, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and mobile and automotive applications, with its GeForce line serving gaming and creative workloads, its professional visualisation GPUs serving workstations, and its H100 and Blackwell accelerators dominating AI data centres. Its CUDA software platform, which turned GPUs into general-purpose parallel compute devices, is the foundation of that dominance. For fiscal year 2026 Nvidia reported revenue of $215.9 billion and net income of $120.1 billion, and its market capitalisation passed $5 trillion in October 2025. As of Q1 2025 it held about 92% of the discrete desktop and laptop GPU market and more than 80% of the market for GPUs used to train and deploy AI. Its crypto relevance is direct but secondary: GPU demand from cryptocurrency mining distorted its gaming sales, the company faced regulatory issues over improper disclosure of cryptomining-related GPU revenue, and it later released dedicated CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) products to separate that demand from gaming supply. Founded in 1993, Nvidia built its business on gaming graphics before CUDA made its GPUs the default hardware for parallel computing and, later, deep learning. It acquired Mellanox Technologies for $6.9 billion in 2019, abandoned a $40 billion attempt to buy Arm announced in 2020 after regulatory opposition, and rode the generative AI boom to a market capitalisation above $5 trillion in October 2025.
