Overview
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is Singapore's central bank and integrated financial regulator, established on 1 January 1971 and merged with the Board of Commissioners of Currency in 2002. It administers legislation covering money, banking, insurance and securities, manages the country's foreign exchange reserves, issues currency and acts as banker to the Government of Singapore. MAS is also an active financial technology regulator, having issued digital bank licences in December 2020 and backed initiatives such as the Global Finance & Technology Network and the cross-border payments platform Project Nexus; its managing director is Chia Der Jiun.
