Overview
Chris Dixon is the founder and managing partner of a16z crypto, the crypto arm of Andreessen Horowitz, where he has worked since 2013 and leads crypto and blockchain investing across five dedicated funds that have raised more than $9.8 billion. Before venture capital he co-founded and ran two startups: SiteAdvisor and Hunch, a recommendation technology company acquired by eBay in 2011. His early investments include Oculus, later acquired by Facebook, and Coinbase, which went public in 2021. He is the author of Read Write Own: Building the Next Era of the Internet, published by Random House in January 2024, which argues that blockchains enable a third era of the internet: after the read-only web (Web 1.0) and the read-write web of social media (Web 2.0) comes an era in which users own their digital assets, identities and communities. He also writes at cdixon.substack.com and has personally backed funds including Hack VC's $200 million crypto seed fund. Dixon co-founded SiteAdvisor and Hunch, selling Hunch to eBay in 2011, and joined Andreessen Horowitz in 2013. He built a16z crypto into five funds totalling more than $9.8 billion, made early investments in Oculus and Coinbase, and published Read Write Own with Random House in January 2024.
