Overview
The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, ticker FBTC, is Fidelity's spot bitcoin exchange-traded product: it holds 100% bitcoin and seeks to track the performance of bitcoin passively using the Fidelity Bitcoin Reference Rate, giving investors exposure without holding the asset directly. Custody is provided in-house by Fidelity Digital Assets, National Association, Fidelity's national trust bank entity, rather than by a third-party custodian — an unusual arrangement among spot bitcoin ETPs, most of which outsource custody. The expense ratio is 25 basis points (0.25%), effective 1 August 2024. FBTC can be held in brokerage, trust and IRA accounts and trades during standard market hours only. Fidelity markets it alongside FETH, its ether fund, and FSOL, its Solana fund. Fidelity's disclosures are explicit that spot crypto ETPs are for investors with a high risk tolerance and that investors could lose their entire investment.
