Overview
The Fidelity Ethereum Fund (ticker FETH) is a US spot ether exchange-traded product launched by Fidelity Investments on 23 July 2024, the first day of US spot ether ETF trading. It is passively managed and seeks to track the price of ether as measured by the Fidelity Ethereum Reference Rate, holding ether directly rather than derivatives. The underlying ether is custodied by Fidelity Digital Assets, which has been chartered by the New York Department of Financial Services since 2019, keeping custody in-house rather than with a third-party crypto custodian. FETH carries an expense ratio of 25 basis points (0.25%), which Fidelity waived entirely until 1 January 2025. Reporting at launch put the fund at $2.2 billion in assets in July 2024. It trades on Cboe BZX and remains one of the larger US spot ether products. Fidelity filed for and launched FETH alongside the first cohort of US spot ether ETFs on 23 July 2024, after the SEC cleared spot ether products. Its 0.25% fee was waived through 1 January 2025 to compete on cost during the launch window.
