Also known as: Jasper CBDC, Bank of Canada DLT

Overview

Project Jasper was a collaborative experiment led by the Bank of Canada and Payments Canada, with R3 and Canadian financial institutions, testing whether distributed ledger technology could support wholesale interbank payment settlement. It was notable as one of the first cases of a central bank running a DLT experiment in partnership with the private sector. Phases I and II, in 2016 and 2017, compared an Ethereum-based prototype with R3's Corda for large-value payments; Phase III, run in 2018 with TMX Group and Accenture, extended the work to integrated settlement of cash and TSX-listed securities on a shared ledger.
