Overview
1inch is a decentralised finance network offering token swaps and liquidity aggregation across multiple blockchains. It was created by Sergej Kunz and Anton Bukov in May 2019 from a prototype built at an ETHGlobal hackathon in New York; parent company Degensoft Ltd. was incorporated in 2020. The core aggregation protocol uses smart contracts to split a single order across many decentralised exchanges to secure better execution prices and lower gas costs, and is complemented by a gas-efficient Limit Order Protocol and the Fusion protocol. The 1INCH governance token launched in December 2020 alongside the 1inch DAO, which votes on protocol parameters. The project raised $2.8 million in August 2020 (led by Binance Labs), $12 million in December 2020 (led by Pantera Capital) and $175 million in December 2021 at a $2.25 billion valuation. 1inch expanded to Solana in April 2025 and added cross-chain swaps in August 2025. 1inch began as a hackathon project in May 2019, launched its token and DAO in December 2020, and shipped the Fusion protocol in December 2022 for gasless, front-running-resistant swaps via Dutch auctions. It extended beyond EVM chains to Solana in April 2025 and enabled cross-chain swapping in August 2025.
