Overview

Morpho is a decentralised, non-custodial lending protocol for the Ethereum Virtual Machine, describing itself as an open credit network and, at the contract level, as a simple lending primitive that allows anyone to create immutable and efficient lending markets permissionlessly. Borrowing is overcollateralised: users post collateral, loan-to-value ratios are enforced by liquidation, and interest rates adjust dynamically with market conditions, while users retain ownership of their assets throughout. The protocol offers two complementary market models — Blue for variable-rate markets and Midnight for fixed-rate markets — and layers Vaults on top, where curators build and manage allocations across markets for depositors who do not want to pick markets themselves. Around the contracts sit web interfaces, GraphQL and REST APIs, and a viem-based TypeScript SDK for reading data and building transactions, with documentation explicitly addressed to app builders, vault curators, AI agents and protocol developers. Governance runs through the MORPHO token, and protocol development is supported by the Morpho Association, a France-based organisation. The core contracts are dual-licensed under BUSL-1.1 and GPLv2 and are immutable.
