Overview
peaq is a layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for DePIN (decentralised physical infrastructure networks) and machine-to-machine economies, running as a Polkadot parachain so it inherits shared security from the Polkadot Relay Chain and native cross-chain messaging. Built with the Substrate framework, it targets the specific demands of IoT and machine payments: published figures cite roughly 6-second block times, average transaction fees typically under $0.01, and throughput in the hundreds of transactions per second, tuned for high-frequency micropayments between devices. peaq secured a Polkadot parachain slot and launched its mainnet in late 2024, with announcements indicating a launch window between 22 and 30 September 2024. At launch the network claimed to bring over 1,000,000 devices across more than 45 dapps on-chain. The PEAQ token pays for transactions and secures the network. The ecosystem has since grown to more than 50 DePIN projects across mobility, energy, connectivity and data management, and peaq also markets machine RWA and machine DeFi use cases. peaq won a Polkadot parachain auction and launched its layer-1 mainnet in late 2024, going live with more than a million devices and 45-plus dapps.
