Overview

The Spark Liquidity Layer is the component of the Spark protocol that deploys capital directly into DeFi markets rather than waiting for depositors to arrive. Spark describes itself as a two-sided capital allocator: on one side it borrows from Sky's stablecoin reserves, and on the other it allocates that capital across DeFi protocols, centralised finance venues and real-world assets, with the Liquidity Layer acting as the mechanism that provides liquidity into onchain markets. The stated problem it addresses is fragmented liquidity, unstable yields and idle stablecoin capital across chains - by centrally allocating Sky-sourced reserves, Spark can seed lending markets and stablecoin pools on multiple networks and earn a return that flows back through Spark Savings to end users. It sits alongside SparkLend, the money market whose stablecoin liquidity comes directly from Sky, and Spark Savings, the user-facing yield product. Spark's documentation positions the whole stack as core liquidity and yield infrastructure for the Sky ecosystem rather than a competing protocol, and references an SPK token with staking and governance mechanisms. The Liquidity Layer was introduced as Spark expanded beyond its original SparkLend money market into an active allocator of Sky's stablecoin reserves across chains and venues.
