Overview

Substrate is an open-source, Rust-based modular blockchain development framework created by Parity Technologies. It provides runtime, consensus and networking components, together with the FRAME pallet system, so developers can build purpose-built sovereign chains with their own execution logic, governance, staking and tokenomics. Substrate is the framework used to build Polkadot's relay chain and its parachains. Parity later merged the Substrate, Polkadot and Cumulus repositories into a single repository called the Polkadot SDK, of which Substrate is now a component.
