Overview

Frankencoin (ZCHF) is a decentralised, over-collateralised stablecoin protocol that tracks the Swiss franc on Ethereum. Users deposit crypto collateral to mint ZCHF, retaining control of the collateral while it secures the outstanding issuance, similar to a transparent secured lending facility. Unusually, the protocol is oracle-free: instead of external price feeds it uses an internal auction mechanism for both price discovery and liquidation, which the team argues makes it less vulnerable to oracle attacks and more flexible about acceptable collateral. There is no hard peg — a set of economic constraints incentivises the market to push ZCHF toward parity from both sides, so short-term deviations are arbitrage opportunities. The system has two ERC-20 tokens: ZCHF itself and Frankencoin Pool Shares (FPS), a governance token representing ownership of the protocol's reserve pool. Minting fees and interest flow into that reserve, which absorbs losses from liquidations. ZCHF is available on Swiss platform Mt Pelerin and has liquidity pools on the Stabull DEX. Frankencoin was built as a Swiss-made, oracle-free alternative to USD stablecoins. It has since been listed on Mt Pelerin and added swap and liquidity pools on Stabull Finance; a wallet linked to Vitalik Buterin was reported to have bought ZCHF.
