Overview

ZK is the native token of ZKsync, the Ethereum layer-2 zero-knowledge rollup ecosystem developed by Matter Labs. The token launched in June 2024 with a total supply of 21 billion, of which the ZKsync Association airdropped 3.675 billion tokens (17.5% of supply) to early users and adopters; claims ran from 24 June 2024 to 3 January 2025. Matter Labs' vision is an 'Elastic Network' of ZK Chains — high-performance verifiable modular rollups and validiums built with the ZK Stack that can be added or expanded on demand and that share liquidity and security. The ZKsync 3.0 upgrade in June 2024 transformed the ecosystem from a single layer 2 into that interconnected Elastic Network. The subsequent Atlas upgrade targets 15,000+ transactions per second with one-second ZK proofs and finality, near-zero fees and full EVM equivalence. Matter Labs built ZKsync as an Ethereum ZK rollup, launching ZKsync Era as a full zkEVM. The ZK token launched in June 2024 with a 3.675 billion token airdrop (17.5% of a 21 billion supply), claimable until 3 January 2025. ZKsync 3.0 in June 2024 introduced the Elastic Network, followed by the Atlas upgrade delivering one-second finality and 15,000+ TPS.
