Overview
Chainlink Labs is the company founded in 2017 that leads development of Chainlink, the decentralised oracle network that connects blockchains to real-world data. It is distinct from the Chainlink protocol itself, which is run by a decentralised network of node operators. Sergey Nazarov, born 1986, co-founded Chainlink with Steve Ellis to solve the 'oracle problem' — the fact that smart contracts cannot natively access off-chain data — and serves as CEO of Chainlink Labs. Chainlink's decentralised oracle networks aggregate data from independent node operators and publish it on-chain, and the platform reports having enabled over $28 trillion in transaction value while powering the large majority of DeFi. Nazarov has driven flagship products including Proof of Reserve and the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), an open-source standard for inter-blockchain messaging, data and token transfers that operates across more than 70 blockchain networks and is secured by a separate Risk Management Network. Chainlink has run collaborations with Swift and more than a dozen large financial institutions and with DTCC on bringing capital markets on-chain using CCIP. Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis founded Chainlink in 2017, with Chainlink Labs as the core development company. The network expanded from price feeds into Proof of Reserve, automation and CCIP, and has run institutional pilots with Swift, more than a dozen large financial institutions, and the DTCC.
