Overview

FTX was a cryptocurrency exchange founded by Sam Bankman-Fried that collapsed in November 2022 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after the misuse of customer funds came to light. Bankman-Fried was convicted of fraud and conspiracy in 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. The FTX estate, restructured under new management, has recovered billions of dollars in assets and has been making a series of court-approved distributions to creditors since 2025.
