Overview
MarketVector Indexes is an index provider and the index business of VanEck, the US investment manager behind the VanEck ETF range. It is a regulated Benchmark Administrator in Europe, incorporated in Germany and registered with BaFin, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority — meaning its benchmarks fall under the EU Benchmarks Regulation regime. The firm maintains three index brands: MarketVector, MVIS and BlueStar. Its index families cover thematic indexes, hard-asset-linked equity indexes and, notably, a pioneering digital asset index family that underpins a range of crypto ETPs. Examples include the MVIS Global Digital Assets Mining Index (MVDAM), licensed to VanEck as the underlying for its Digital Assets Mining ETF; the MVIS Global Digital Assets Equity Index, tracking the largest and most liquid companies in the digital asset segment; and the MVIS CryptoCompare Smart Contract Leaders Brazil Index (MVSCBR), licensed to Investo in June 2022. VanEck and MarketVector have also made a strategic investment in CCData, the digital asset data firm formerly known as CryptoCompare whose data feeds the MVIS CryptoCompare index series. The business operates the legacy MVIS and BlueStar index brands under the MarketVector name, and its crypto indices are built in partnership with CryptoCompare (now CCData), in which VanEck and MarketVector have since taken a strategic stake.
