LayerZero V2 product
Overview
LayerZero V2 is the current version of the LayerZero omnichain messaging protocol, which lets smart contracts on one blockchain send arbitrary messages to contracts on another. Its foundation is a set of immutable endpoint contracts deployed on each supported chain that act as the secure entry and exit points for cross-chain messages; because they are non-upgradeable, applications cannot have their security silently changed underneath them. Verification is handled by Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs) — configurable verification services that an application selects and parameterises, including finality and execution rules — replacing the fixed oracle-plus-relayer model with a modular security stack owned by the application itself. Delivery is separated from verification: Executors provide permissionless execution, so anyone can execute a verified cross-chain message, removing gatekeepers and single points of failure in delivery. Configurable message libraries handle message formatting, letting the protocol add new verification schemes without redeploying endpoints. The overall design principle is that each application chooses its own security and cost tradeoff rather than inheriting a single protocol-wide trust assumption. V2 replaced LayerZero V1's fixed oracle-and-relayer design with configurable DVNs, permissionless Executors and immutable endpoints, moving security configuration from the protocol to the individual application.
