Overview
Band Protocol is a decentralised oracle network that delivers external data to smart contracts, positioning itself on its website as 'The Unified Data Layer for AI and Web3' and stating it has been securing data on-chain since 2018. Its own chain, BandChain, is built with the Cosmos SDK and uses WebAssembly as the standard format for the data scripts that define how data is fetched and aggregated. The protocol's documentation describes three main data products: request-based data feeds for custom price feeds, a Concurrent Price Stream for on-chain price signalling, and a Verifiable Random Function (VRF) for tamper-proof randomness. Band's site reports 40+ chains supported, 11+ data sources, 52+ validators, 82+ clients and partners, and roughly $185M of on-chain value secured (figures as displayed in July 2026). BAND is the native token, used to power the ecosystem, secure the network and govern the protocol. Band has also added Membit, a service that supplies large language models with current information via a community of 'Data Hunters'. Band states it has secured on-chain data since 2018 and later moved to its own Cosmos SDK-based chain, BandChain, rather than remaining a purely Ethereum-side oracle. Its more recent product direction extends beyond price feeds into randomness (VRF) and AI data supply (Membit).
