Overview
Fantom was a layer-1 blockchain platform that used a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) architecture and the Lachesis asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerant (aBFT) consensus mechanism to achieve fast transaction finality, hosting a large DeFi ecosystem. In August 2024 Fantom Foundation announced a rebrand to Sonic: the Sonic network launched mainnet on 18 December 2024, and the FTM token was migrated 1:1 to the new S token, with the migration completed on 10 May 2025. The former Fantom Opera network and its ecosystem now operate as Sonic. (Verified 2026-07-15.)
