Cronos chain
Overview
Cronos is an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain launched by Crypto.com, with mainnet going live on 8 November 2021. It is built on the Cosmos SDK, which lets developers port dApps from Ethereum and other EVM chains while also benefiting from Cosmos-ecosystem interoperability. Transaction fees are paid in CRO, the Crypto.com ecosystem token. Cronos runs separately from the Cronos POS Chain — formerly the Crypto.com Chain — a Cosmos/Tendermint proof-of-stake chain launched in 2019 that is also powered by CRO, with a bridge connecting the two. Cronos was created to scale DeFi by giving Ethereum developers a low-friction migration path backed by Crypto.com's user base and exchange distribution. Crypto.com launched the Cronos POS Chain (originally Crypto.com Chain) in 2019 on Cosmos/Tendermint, then launched the EVM-compatible Cronos mainnet on 8 November 2021. CRO exists on both chains, connected by a bridge.
Within the DeFi Intel graph, Cronos connects to 9 tracked entities, most strongly to USD Coin, Connext, Connext.
